I purchased a 2000 Ford Focus and it has been the worst car I have ever owned. It is completely a lemon. The transmission is almost out, and I have exhausted every avenue to get some help with this lemon. Fuel Pump, leakage, power steering is messed up, tires you name it. The whole key compartment came out and the key broke in it.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus with less than 50,000 miles on it and I have had to have the fuel pump replaced twice, the fuel pump mechanism replaced once and have had my car in for check engine light issues related to the fuel pump, its O rings and seals 4 times in the last 3 weeks. My dealer does not feel that he needs to provide me with a rental car during these repairs which are becoming increasingly frequent.

We bought a 2001 Ford Focus in October of 2001. We have had the car two years now and have put over $15,000 in repairs into it. Now mind you we bought the car brand new with 75 miles and a extended warranty. We have had to have the brakes replaced twice and we have had to buy new tires every 3 months because the car will not stay aligned and the car eats the tires.

Two months after we got the car the windshield cracked and they refused to replace it. and now the fuel pump is going out and that is another $1,500 in repairs. Everytime we call the dealership they said it's weareable parts and not under warranty. Also the keys get stuck in the igniton switch and that's another $300 to fix. I'm getting sick because I have a new car that we are paying payments on and we can't even go out of town with it in fear of it breaking down.

I feel like we got a lemon and the dealership is doing nothing to solve the problem. I have all the documentation on all the repairs we have had on the car and what still has to be done.

It has caused us undue stress and we sat on the side of the road for nine hours the other day and we where 48 miles from home. I feel like we where lied to by the dealership and ford about the car. And no one has done anything to help solve the problem. I know for a fact we aren't the only ones that are having these same problems. The mechanic at the dealership we know personally and he has told us that they get the Focuses in everyday with

YOU REALLY NEED 2 PEOPLE TO DO THIS
1. Unscrew the Coolant Tank cap and unclip the strap holding it to the side of the inner wing and lift it up as high as you can get it with all the pipes attached.
2. On the top hose there is a plastic screw in the top of it. Get someone to stand by this and undo this.
3. Now with you standing holding the Coolant tank over the top of the wing and another person holding the srcrew from the top hose put your mouth over the top of the coolant tank making it air tight blow holding in the pressure and not letting go. Keep the pressure on until you see out of the screw hole pure coolant flowing out with no air in it. While the coolant is flowing out air free get the person to screw in the plastic screw back in all the time you are holding in the pressure. Once the screw is back in you can remove your mouth from the coolant tank.
4. Now you need to follow the same procedure for the screw on the top of the the pipe coming from the top of the water pump and remove any air from this side of the cooling system.
Once you have done the same for the water pump pipe screw you can put the coolant tank back in place and screw on the cap. Hopefully your Cooling system should be free from any air locks.

Also on a regular basis leave the car running and wait for the Cooling Fan to cut in while watching the temperature gauge and make sure that it cuts in where it normally does. If it starts to go above the 2 3rd's line then switch the car off and investigate what the cause is before driving the car. Likely causes are air in the cooling system, blocked radiator or cracked radiator, faulty water pump, faulty thermostat, a hole in one of the water pipes, faulty fan switch or incorect coolant mixture.

GOLDEN RULE
NEVER let the car overheat or let it get into the danger zone where the little red light on the temperature gauge comes on. If your in traffic and the car goes above the normal temperature where the fan cuts in pull over and switch the engine off. Call someone out and have the car towed home or to a garage and investigate the problem before driving it again:victory::victory::smile:

I'm not here to defend Ford or Focus, as I don't personally own one, nor has a relation to the company in anyway. However, the examples you bring here are consumers’ complaints from the http://www.consumeraffairs.com/autom...ocus_misc.html and it’s about the American Focus, which is totally different from the Euro version.
Moreover, the dependability of a European car, especially the Focus we’re talking about here should be checked here http://whatcar.co.uk/used-car-summary.aspx?rt=2595
