WIP:Fiat 128 2.0L engine swap+Turbo, Warning:big pics

Hey guys :) , I found this interesting topic while browsing Fiat Forum. The poster is swapping a 2.0 L dohc engine from a Lancia Beta coupe into his 128 SL coupe, he also mentions turboing it....so I guess it's still a work in progress project.

Hi the chassis has to be moved up out of the way ,this job has to be done to both sides fo even body twist. The chassis has to be remade by a sheet metal worker in 1.2mm sheet metal.The gear box now will sit with 120mm of hang in the wheel arch , so the the front has been pumped 2.5 inch on each side so overal 5 inch wider ,so the wheels at the moment i have 225/45/16 wheels on the car at the moment for wider track and the inner space on the wheel for some big brake rotors and calipers. Well look at these tell me what you think.

اقدر اقولك ان ديه اكيد عربيه مش طبيعيه....
و ممكن تظبط اي حاجه تتخيلها لأنها الللي اعرفه وزنها 800 كيلو....
و الموتور ده اعتقد معدي 200 حصان ...
انا واحد صاحبي معاه 128 مركب فيها موتور 1600 لانشيا....
ماشاء الله عليها مش هقولك بتجري....
معفرته عفرته غريبه...شوف بقي 2000 سي سي تربو هتعمل ايه:funny34d:

i think after all these mods it no longer 800kg it could reach 1000kg but still it is good
the problem is that the weight distribution will be shifted forward which is very bad for handling

Exactly, it's going to be nose heavy....not sure how it's going to perform around corners but still a hot project nonetheless

i reckon it is going to have lots of under steer due to the larger inertia at the front... porsches used to have unexpected oversteering due to the rear mounted engine and here we are facing the opposite... it is going to have good traction at launch though

هتجرى هتجرى بس العربية اساسا مش رشيقة دى ممكن تعمل كارثة لانها هتبقى زى الريشة بعد سرعة معينة و بالذات لو حاولت توقفها فجأة :)

اكيد لازم تتعدل العفشه و الفرامل....
انا صاحبي مغير الفرامل بمقاس اكبر ....
و منشف العفشه و مسقط العربيه و من ورا اكثر...لدرجه ان الشكمان بيحك في المطبات و من غير ما حد يوعد ورا...

Especially that most of the engine block is in front of the Axle.


We also got to remember that the engine bay is kinda small for that swap, it's not an easy job and some sacrifices have to be done in order to do it.

Mr Mohamed what about the turbo :)l
