Nissan Dashboard Warning Lights
The first group of lights indicate some sort of warning and typically indicate that you need to check on some aspect of your vehicle.
- Antilock Braking: The letters “ABS” let you know that the Antilock Braking system is functioning correctly. You should expect it to turn on whenever the ignition switch is turned to ON but turn off again while you are driving.
- Brake: The word “BRAKE” or an exclamation mark inside a circle inside parenthesis lets you know that either the parking brake is activated or that your brake fluid level is low.
- Charge: A basic image of a car battery, with a plus and minus in the appropriate spots, may turn on with the engine running in cases when the charge system is not functional. You should turn off the engine and check your generator belt.
- Low Tire Pressure: A flattened circle with an exclamation point in the middle tells you that your tire pressure is low. It is normal to be on for a second when you turn on your car, but it should go off afterward.
- Master: An exclamation point inside a triangle lights up for several different warnings on the information display: check tire pressure, loose fuel cap, door or trunk open, parking brake release, low-fuel, low windshield-washer fluid, or no key.
- Power Steering: The letters “PS” let you know that electric power steering is operational. If you notice the light with the engine running, you should have the power steering system checked.
- Seatbelt: A picture of a person wearing a seatbelt reminds you to latch your seatbelts.
- Supplemental Airbag: A picture of a seated person with a seatbelt and a circular airbag on the lap is always on for around 7 seconds after turning on the car. Any other illumination indicates service is necessary.

If an indicator light is on, this doesn’t necessarily mean that there is an issue with your car; it is there to let you know if you have a certain feature, such as the fog lights, activated in a given moment.
- Cruise Main and Set Switch: The word “CRUISE” indicates cruise control is on.
- Fog Light: This is a light with angled lines and a wavy vertical one running through them. It indicates fog lights are on.
- Front Passenger Airbag Status: This symbol is like the one for supplemental airbags, but features a number 2 and an “X” through the airbag. If the light is on, the airbag is off.
- High Beam Indicator (Blue): This is a headlight with straight horizontal lines branching off of it. It is blue when your high beams are active.
- Malfunction: This is a roughly rectangular shape with curved edges and lines and indicates that emission control may be malfunctioning or the fuel-filler cap isn’t attached.
- Overdrive Off: “O/D OFF” indicates that you are in overdrive off mode.
Security: A car with a key inside will blink to show your security systems are functional.- Side Light and Headlight (Green): Two green headlights facing away from each other shows the side headlight or light position is on.
- Slip: An image of a car sliding tells you that either Traction Control or Vehicle Dynamic Control is active, telling you the car is close to its traction limits.
- SPORT Mode: The word “SPORT” tells you this mode is active.
- Turn Signal/Hazard: Two arrows pointing opposite directions indicate the turn signals or hazard lights are on.
- Vehicle Dynamic Control Off: A car slipping and the word “OFF” indicate that vehicle dynamic control isn’t on.
