During the First 2,000 Km (1,200 Miles)
No formal "break-in" procedure is required with your new Hyundai. However, you can contribute to the economical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the following recommendations during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles):
* Don't drive faster than 88km/h (55 mph). [This statement is meant to advise against hard revving, not to limit your overdrive crusing speed. Imagine the damage you could do if you tried hitting 88km/h in first or second gear... Confused See the next point.]
* While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. [This is the REAL breaking-in limit, not speed.]
* Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedal fully. [Isn't this what the above two points are saying?]
* For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid hard stops. [Your brakes need to be broken-in too.]
* Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in too high a gear that the engine "bucks." Shift to a lower gear.) [Same point as #1 and #2 again. See how important this is?]
* Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time. [Meaning, get your engine used to different rev ranges.]
* Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes at one time. [Your engine needs moving air to cool itself most efficiently. Besides, it's a bloody waste of petrol 'cos you're going nowhere.]
* Don't tow a trailer during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles) of operation. [It puts unnecessary strain on the engine.]
