Gentlemen, first of all I would like to thank Mr. Ahmed for posting this info, I saw the news on contactcars as well and did some research and I thought to share the results with you
After the world war 2 where Americans where using the Jeep during the war, some people liked it because of it’s reliability and decided to buy it and of course they cann’t ride in the strets the military one, so, the company making the military jeep (willys) decided to produce a line of a Civilian Jeep (called CJ), that car developed by years from CJ (1944) , CJ3 (1949) all the way to CJ8 which was produced from 1981 to 1986.
Later came the Wrangler to replace the CJ series and the first production was for the Wrangler YJ which was produced from 1987-1995 and it was available with two engines, a 2.5L 4 Cylinder and the very famous 4.0 L 6 Cylinder straight and a rare 4.2 L 6 cylinder straight.
The YJ was replaced later with the TJ which was produced from 1997 to 2006 and it used almost the same engines except for the 4.2. the suspension changed from leaf springs to coil springs and the headlights are back to the circular shape
From 2007 to now the shape changed again with the new name JK and a new variant of the very famous iconic Jeep is now available with 4 door plus the 2 door model, the 2 door is still named “Wrangler” and the 4 door is named “Wrangler Unlimited”.
So, Arabian American Vehicles (AAV) announced last Friday that they are planning to produce the JK with a diesel 2.8L engine. Jeep introduced this engine very lately and it’s not produced by Jeep, the engine comes from an Italian company called VM Motori, this company is an experienced company regarding Diesel engines.
The engine is a 2.8L 4 Cylinder (model no:R 428 DOHC) and is Turbocharged using a technology named (CRD) “common rail turbo diesel” producing 160 hb (120 kw) of horse power and 295 ft lbf (400 nm) of torque, this engine is fitted with one of two gearboxes, the first is a 6 speed manual transmission, and the second is a 5 speed automatic, the automatic one is made by Mercedes-Benz
This engine was also introduced in the Jeep liberty KJ 2002-2007 in some selected countries, and some ...sites claim it do 174 hp instead of 160 hp, but the one announced from AAV is 160 hp.
The two door model specs are as follows (quoted from sites in UK).
Engine: 2777cc Diesel straight 4, 16 Valve
Torque: 302@2000-2600
HP: 174@3800
Weight: 1805 kg
0-100km: 11.2 seconds
Top speed: 180 km/hr
Service interval:12500 miles
Fuel Tank: 80 Liters
The four door model specs are as follows (quoted from sites in UK).
Engine: 2777cc Diesel straight 4, 16 Valve
Torque: 302@2000-2600
HP: 174@3800
Weight: 1955 kg
0-100km: 11.7-13 seconds
Top speed: 180 km/hr
Service interval:12500 miles
Fuel Tank: 80 Liters
And of course the iconic legend is fitted with a 4 wheel drive system gearbox that selects between 4 low speed (4L) and 4 high speed (4H) and 2 high speed (2H)
So that was all I know regarding the new Wrangler but what I still need to know is that how much are they gonna price it, what are the options that are going to be available for this car.
Here are some photos for the 2 door model
