There is in fact a service location in Qatar:
Lamborghini Service Doha
75, Al Wakalat Street, Industrial Area
Qatar
Phone number listed as well at main lamborghini site. The site shows that there are also service centers in Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
So unless the transport was done for moving the car as well as getting the work done.

One thing I'd like to know-did the car get serviced and then shipped right back home? Or is it still in the UK? I ask this because I've known quite a few people who have shipped a car overseas in order to use it there-it makes sense to get it serviced once its there. I'm sure the answer's out there but I can't find it.
On the other paw, it may just be another gross display of wealth.

To be fair, the headline is misleading - it wasn't just an oil change, but a full service - and being driven around the desert the engine may have gotten sh....*ed up, requiring a lot of attention and parts. Perhaps it was well past it's service mileage and needed even more work than the usual service would have required.*
£3,000+ seems a bit steep, but that's the premium you pay for any high end car, and "specialists" to deal with the problems. It sounds feasible to me.
*I had a Daewoo once (don't laugh) and it was on it's last free warranty service (thank DOYC). When I wen't back to collect it it was in about 200 pieces on the garage floor, and they explained it would be another day or so. The list of new parts they had to put on was probably worth more than I paid for it.
