New Renault Symbol has been awarded the 'AUTOBEST 2009' prize after securing a total score of 879 points within the framework of the prizes attributed by the Autobest jury.

The annual Autobest award is delivered to the best car in the following emerging markets: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine. The Autobest jury is made up of 15 motoring journalists from these countries.

This award recognizes New Renault Symbol's key strengths, namely its elegant, status-enhancing styling, voluminous boot, low running costs and exemplary fuel consumption, as well as the comfort and outstanding handling it delivers.

The choice of the Autobest judges, 10 of whom ranked New Renault Symbol in first place, underlines “New Renault Symbol's appeal to the customers of this region which represents a population of 300 million.”

New Renault Symbol, which is the fruit of international collaboration between Renault's engineering departments, was designed to meet the demands of the customers of these markets.

New Renault Symbol is known as New Renault Thalia in the following markets: the Baltic States, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia and Slovakia.

Economical to run
New Renault Symbol provided an eloquent illustration of its frugal fuel consumption performance within the framework of the Renault Symbol Eco-Challenge which took place last September in Turkey.

Simply by applying eco-driving recommendations, New Renault Symbol dCi 85hp succeeded in returning fuel consumption of a mere 3.15 litres/100km – equivalent to CO2 emissions of 85g/km – after completing the 1,430km course at an average speed of 63.6kph. At the finish, New Renault Symbol's fuel tank still contained eight litres of diesel which means that it could have covered a further 250km to take its total range 1,700km (results certified by Turkey's independent certification and measures agency, OTAM, and by an independent judge of fact).
