Review: DashDAQ (Data Logger / Gauge Replacement)

What: DashDAQ
Reason: This can be used as a diagnostics tool, multiple gauge replacement or performance checker.
Review: So first off I want to give out major thanks to the guys at Drew Technologies for the chance to review such a great piece of equipment. This thing is one of the most amazing devices I have ever had the experience to use. Not only can it log at least 9 sensors (yes at least 9!) it can replace multiple gauges as well as log things like 1/4 mile times and fuel economy and much more.
So the first thing that I want to address is the price. I bet your thinking the price is to high for a data logger. Well look at it this way if your car already has a wideband built in you can have direct access to that without the need of buying a 2nd one as well as boost, fuel pressure, spark adv, knock, air temp, boost air temp and so much more. On the Mazda using the Mazda specific sensor readers I have access to 166 sensors! Not to mention all the generic sensors that can be read as well. Not only can it read gauges but it can do diagnostics, clear check engine lights and even be some car entertainment if you want to install the optional media software.
A problem when using the OEM sensors (not really a “problem”) with the Mazda at least is that the wideband is lambda. Which reads 0-2 meaning 1=14.7 AFR. This is not a problem for the DashDAQ or you. With a few calculations you are now seeing the numbers you are used to. This can be applied to anything and everything you can think of such as boost reading, air pressure and more.
The device itself is about the size of a pda and is powered from the OBD port. It has a light sensor built in and I have never had a problem viewing the data on the screen be it a bright sunny day or at the darkest night. What also makes this unit nice is the amount of things you can change on it. You can have custom skins, pic what gauges you want where and even pick what software is loaded onto the device. The updating is very easy to do and to get the updates all you have to do is install the software and connect online. Once done it will check against the servers to make sure you have the latest firmware as well as any new sensors or add ons you may have bought.
Conclusion:
I have been using this for the last few weeks and I have to say it is definitely worth the money. With as much as it can do and the awesome support from the guys at Drew Technologies this IS the BEST diagnostic tool that you can get for your car. Combining the ability to log as many sensors as you could ever need along with performance tools like 1/4 and 0-60 and gauge replacement you will never need another logging tool again. Moving the DashDAQ to another car is as easy as plugging into the OBD port and starting the car. It is very easy to use and highly customizable it is many things all in one very clean and small package.
Overall score: 9.5 / 10
Pros:
Is there nothing this thing cannot do?
Complete Gauge Replacement
Data Logging with at least 9 Sensors
SD Slot for data storage
Fully Customizable
Media
Cons:
Price is a bit on the high side for some.
On Mazda at least for now no Oil Pressure Gauge.
Must buy Make Specifics for some missing gauges (eg. Mazda Spec for Knock Sensor).
