Mr. Cryptonx, your overview of the Octavia is really very concise and to the point, just do u think the A4 would be in the same level of performance and durability of the A5?

I mean, many pepl told me that no significant difference between both other than the price, especially for someone not in to much of luxury.

Also, I would refer to Mr. Oskar quote about the Passat, what do u all think about it, we r talking here about same range of price i.e. 125k, used Passat (2003-2004), what will be it is location in the comparison especially in the spare parts and the maintenance.

Really I am glad to be in the middle of this discussion.

I am glad I could be of use Sir ,

The A4 is pretty much the same as the A5 , minus the looks and the luxury features . its just a pure rigid solid and reliable classic car , but which brings me to a point , If you didn't like the Toyota ( Corolla I presume ) I dont think the A4 will be with any diffrence , Especialy knowing that its shape and performance ( shape part is personal I know ) is below the Corolla .

The Corolla on the other side , if you put the Shape aside ,is a car that Can live for you for the next 30 years without ever asking except for the Usual mantianenace and spare parts .

My dad used to drive an Automatic 1994 Corolla , We sold it in 2004 without even chaning the shock absorbers or any thing else for 10 years it didnt complain :D .

back to the looks/reliability , I'd rather drive a Japanese car over the A4 . I was recommending the A5 because despite being non japanese , it does really belong to luxury cars not the usual practical Japanese .

VW in Egypt are murder .. spare parts are super duper expensive , even for thier cheapest offering ( Pointer ) however the aftermarket has lotsa stuff for it .

I didn't hear anyone complain about Mazdas 3 as well , it looks fine , handles superfine and speeeds like it should .

Again I recommend going for a new car , especialy If you want it to last for sometime without changing again .

Tayeb just a little question mark,

If we r talking about same spare parts range - Octavia & VW I mean, then why not to go for VW, particularly Passat one?

In other words, buying VW means buying a name, a brand and a real make (made in Germany).

With all due respect to any zero car, just if and only if, we get a chance to choose between a trustable used Passat 2003-2004 and new Octavia A4, how would we trade-off this situation:)?

Let's consider it a brainstorming quiz, bear in mind, the answer will cost u a 125K

Owning a VW doesn't make it better than a SKODA , even if a SKODA is built upon the VW platform

Along with other Škodas, the Czech-built Octavia has been a markedly reliable vehicle, more so than the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf with which it shares platforms. In 2006 Warranty Direct, a UK-based provider of mechanical warranties for used cars, rated Škoda the top manufacturer (above Mazda and Honda), while Audi came seventh from bottom. The Octavia specifically had a reliability index of 32.74 (lower being more reliable) while the Golf produced over the same period was 87.28 and the Audi A3 99.43.

I know it feels better to be in a VW , or even in an Audi , but in the end , they are all the same cars , same engines , ( especialy in Egypt ) , the only thing that's gonna matter at the end , is the shape / price .

I say , If you can swoop the lowest priced one , with the biggest features ... you've won . ( asuming we are beyond the reliablilty part )

now back to your question ,
If the Passat was in Perfect shape , I would personaly go for it .

If it even had a slight bump or a stupid mechanical problem , I would dump it , for An A4 or for anything else .
