A: Hey, if it's on the Internet it must be true, right? The T-IV automatic transmission fluid meets industry specification JWS3309. Here are several automatic transmission fluids that are listed as suitable for T-IV applications: Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, Castrol Trans-Max Synthetic ATF, Quaker State Ultimate Synthetic Multi-vehicle ATF, Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid — to name just a few. Mobil ATF 3309 is a JWS3309-spec transmission fluid engineered for this application.
Like you, I found conflicting information on Dexron VI compatibility with JWS3309-spec Type T-IV fluid. Part of the issue is Dexron VI's "backward compatibility," meaning it is suitable for transmissions using previous Dexron ATFs.
Aisin specifically recommends against using Dexron III in the T-IV transmission.

NO! Don't even think about it. T-IV is a "highly friction modified" ATF by comparison to Dexron. The major differences in friction characteristics between T-IV and Dexron means (among other things) that the clutches/bands will neither engage nor disengage at the right points during shifts...they'll either disengage too slowly (causing internal binding as another clutch pack tries to engage) or too quickly (resulting in lots of slippage). Given your propensity for demanding ultimate performance from your drivetrain, the slippage, binding and generally rough shifting you will experience with Dexron will greatly reduce your transmission's life. And when you do have a transmission problem, kiss any warranty coverage bye-bye as soon as its discovered your transmission has been run with Dexron.
You **might** get away with using Dexron and Lubegard's HFM additive (which allegedly changes Dexron's friction characteristics to match those of T-IV) but I (with a Chemistry background) have serious doubts about Lubegard's claims.
Finally, keep in mind that Mobil told one TS member (who had put Mobil 1 Synthetic...a Dexron equivalent...in his transmission) to immediately drain their ATF and flush/refill his transmission with T-IV because Mobil 1 was not at all compatible with his '03s transmission.
