its a valid solution indeed but it has one big problem... once you have done that the left travel of your steering box will not be the same as your right travel

in other words if a steering system got 3.5 steering wheel turns from lock to lock then theoretically it should have 1.75 turns from center to right lock and 1.75 turns from center to left lock

now assuming that after alignment you got 0.25 of a turn deviation to the right and you fixed it by removing the steering wheel then you will end up with 1.50 turn from center to right lock and 2.00 turns from center to left lock

if you change ball joints of pinion and rack and you dont lock them to the same spot as the ones you replaced, rack travel will change, then you realign your wheels and you will find the travel is the same for both tyres, then you adjust the steering wheel, or at least this is exactly what I did last time and everything is okay here
