    1NZ-FE


    The 1NZ-FE is a 1.5 L (1497 cc) conventional Otto-cycle variant of the 1NZ-FXE with VVT-i.
    It retains the same bore and stroke, but the compression ratio is lowered to 10.5:1. Output is 81,2 kW (109 hp) at 6000 rpm with 141 Nm (103 lb·ft) of torque at 4200 rpm. The redline is 6400 rpm.

    1ZZ-FE


    The 1ZZ-FE is a 1.8 L (1794 cc, 225 lb) version built in Buffalo, West Virginia. Its production in Cambridge, Ontario was discontinued in December 2007. Bore is 79 mm and stroke is 91.5 mm. Compression ratio is 10.0:1. Output is between 120 hp (89 kW) at 5600 rpm with 122 ft·lb (165 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm, and 143 hp (105 kW) at 6400 rpm with 125.8 ft·lb (170.6 N·m) of torque at 4200 rpm. It uses multi-point fuel injection, has VVT-i and features fracture-split forged powder metal connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and either a cast aluminum intake manifold or a molded plastic one.[3]
    A bolt-on TRD supercharger kit is available on the 2003–2004 Corolla, Matrix, and Vibe. The bolt-on TRD supercharger kit can also run on other vehicles with the non VVT-i or VVT-i versions of the 1ZZ-FE. Custom fabrications are needed for those vehicles.

    Toyota announced a voluntary recall of 2005 to 2008 Toyota Corollas and Matrixes equipped with 1ZZ-FE engines. The issue involves the engine control module, and includes the potential for it to develop a crack on the module's circuit board, which can result in the car not starting, the transmission shifting harshly, or the engine stalling. Additionally, Pontiac announced a voluntary recall of Pontiac Vibes from years 2005 to 2008 for the same issue.
    1ZZ-FED

    The 1ZZ-FED is similar to the 1ZZ-FE but is built in Shimoyama, Japan. Output is 140 hp (104 kW) at 6400 rpm with 126 ft·lb (171 N·m) of torque at 4200 rpm. It uses MFI fuel injection, VVT-i and light weight, cast rods.

    3ZZ-FE

    The 3ZZ-FE is a 1.6 L (1598 cc) incarnation built in Japan. It is found in the Asian Toyota Corolla Altis which is available in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan and in the Toyota Corolla sedan sold in Sri Lanka. In South Africa the motor can be found in the RunX 160 and Corolla 160. The entire exterior design and chassis is the same as the American Corolla. Bore is 79.0 mm and the stroke is 81.5 mm. Max. output is 109 hp (81 kW) @ 6000 rpm. Max. torque is 110 lb·ft (150 Nm) @ 3800 rpm. Features SMP pistons v/s Toyota made in 1ZZ-FE engine. The preferred engine oil is 5W30 API grade SL/SM.

    The 4ZZ-FE is a 1.4 L (1398 cc) version. Bore is 79.0 mm and stroke is 71.3 mm. Output is 95 hp (71 kW) at 6000 rpm with 96 ft·lb (130 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm.

    The Toyota 1ZR-FE is a DOHC, 16-valve, 1.6 L (1598cc) engine equipped with dual VVT-i. This engine is available with either manual gearbox (5 Speed) or a "multi-mode" manual transmission (MM-T 5 Speed). For the Corolla Altis, the available transmission options are the manual gearbox (6 speed) or a 4 speed gate type automatic transmission. Output for this engine is rated at 124 hp (92 kW) at 6000 rpm and 116 lb·ft (157 N·m) of torque at 5200 rpm net.

    The Toyota 2ZR-FE is a DOHC, 16-valve, 1.8 L(1798 cc)[2] engine also equipped with Dual VVT-i. This new engine is now replacing the 1ZZ-FE engine in most applications. Output for this engine is rated at 104 kW (140 hp) at 6000 rpm and 174 N·m (128 lb·ft) of torque at 4400 rpm for the Corolla, Matrix, and Vibe and 95 kW (128 hp) and 171 N·m (126 lb·ft) of torque in the Scion xD.

    The Toyota 2ZR-FAE is a DOHC, 16-valve, 1.8 L (1797 cc) this engine adopts the Valvematic system. This all-new engine is progressively replacing the 1ZZ-FED and 2ZR-FE engine in most applications. Variants of this engine produce 104–110 kW (139–148 bhp) and 171–175 N·m (126–129 lbf·ft) of torque. Compression ratio is 10.5:1 and redline is at 6600 rpm. The engine consumes 5–10% less fuel than the 2ZR-FE depending on the application.[3]

    2ZR-FXE

    The Toyota 2ZR-FXE is a 1.8 L (1798 cc) Atkinson cycle variant of the 2ZR-FE.[4] It has the same bore and stroke, but the compression ratio is increased to 13.0:1, and the inlet valve closing is retarded. The net result is that the engine has a greater effective expansion than compression. Output is producing 73 kW (98 hp) and 142 N·m (105 lbf·ft) of torque, paired with electric motor/generators in the hybrid drive system; together the engine and electric motors produce up to 100 kW (134 hp) and 207 N·m (153 lbf·ft)pm. Thermal efficiency is about 38%.[5]

    The 1.6L and 1.8L ZR engines are built in Tianjin FAW Toyota Engine Co., Ltd. (TFTE) Plant No. 2, beginning in April 2007 [8] and in the West Virginia Plant for Corolla's production in the United States and Canada.[9]
